Lucky bastards like me don't have to worry about jumpstarting our vintage British bikes. Magneto! Yep, my ignition self-generates, no battery required.
And yet.
When I need to call a friend with a pickup truck, or I need to make a plea to bystanders on social media complete with a video of my bike not starting when I kick it...but my smartphone is dead, I do need extra power. Desperately.
The Weego JS6 Jump Starter Battery+ lithium polymer power pack has it, in a size that’s not much larger than your iPhone 6. Speaking of which, the iPhone 6 battery is 1,810 mAh, so theoretically the 6,000 mAh JS6 should give you 100 percent charge at least three times or extend the operating time the same amount.
The included three-tail USB cord (micro, 30 pin, and Lightning) plugs in the single port on the unit and charge output is 5 volts/2 amps max. But most importantly for 99.9 percent of riders out there, the 5.5 x 3 x 0.625-inch unit also has plug-in alligator clips and a 150-amp starting/300-amp peak jumpstart capability. It brought our very dead longterm Yamaha YZF-Ri back to life after its parking lights were left on for days. Weego says the JS6 can jump up to 4.6-liter gas engines and 2.4-liter diesels. So your Gold Wing will be no sweat.
Wall and car chargers are included, and all is contained in a nylon bag that will easily fit into a backpack or tank bag. For comparison, my lead-acid 425-amp (cranking, 1,700 peak) jump box weighs 18 pounds and is about 16 x 14 x 5 inches, which is bigger than most of the pockets on my riding gear and a full load in most backpacks.
After a few months of use, the easy-to-pack Weego JS6 has proven to be consistent and reliable. I dream of the day my vintage bikes give me the same.
