25 YEARS AGO FEBRUARY, 1969

If you liked doin' it in the dirt, this special motocross issue was for you. It began with publisher Joe Parkhurst's Roundup interview of Don Rickman, an accomplished racer who, with brother Derek, manufactured Rickman racing machines. The issue was capped with a look at the eight-race InterAm motocross series, fielded by American and Brits alike.

• A story called “Honda de Baja” took a look at how careful preparation of a CB350 Twin resulted in a victory for Honda in the Baja 1000. Then, as now, preparation is a Baja racer’s best friend.

# A key element of motorcycling today is the interest in old bikes. But that’s not new, as this issue proves. It contains, in a layout lovingly done to resemble a family album, a layout of photos of vintage bikes ridden by vintage riders.

• Does the name duHamel mean anything to you? We don’t mean Miguel, former 500 GP rider and current Supersport and Superbike rider. We mean his father, Yvon, who was profiled in this issue of CW. In considerable understatement, he told author Greg Stott, “I really like to go fast.”

• Finally, a story about a would-be 500cc GP engine constructed by Freidel Münch, of Münch Mammut fame. The wildly oversquare Münch Twin never made it to the GP wars, but it is a mark of Münch’s genius that through a career that continues to unfold, he is never out of ideas.
