SPY SHOTS! DUCATI 916 CAUGHT IN THE ACT

Thank heaven for human curiosity, and also for telephoto lenses. Those two elements combined to capture, in these unauthorized photographs, painted and unpainted prototypes of Ducati’s 916 SP6 undergoing testing at an undisclosed Italian racetrack.

The 916 (see “Preview ’94,” CW, October, 1993), to be sold in the U.S. as an early-release 1995 model, will be the fastest, most expensive Ducati streetbike ever offered for sale here and will be equipped with what supertuner Eraldo Ferracci calls, “The best of everything, the best you can buy. It is pretty trick; it’s going to be the superbike of superbikes.” Ferracci told Cycle World he expects the 916 to weigh in at about 400 pounds dry.
