CW 25 YEARS AGO OCTOBER, 1966
ROUNDUP
ADAZZLING COVER GREETED readers of the October issue 25 years ago. The Montesa Impala Sport 250, displayed in a serene. late-summer setting. got our attention, as did the go-go-booted beauty who was reclining on the Spanish-built, two-stroke Single.
Besides a complete test on the Montesa, there were reports on a HagonTriumph dragstercapable of clipping through the quarter-mile in l l .3 seconds — a Bultaco Lobito and a racetrack-ready Omega Silver Lightning Super Sport, another Spanish import, but powered by a German lOOcc Zundapp engine.
The conclusion of Miss Pookie Baker's two-part feature, “Motorcycle + Girl = Adventure,” offered a feminine insight into European motorcycle travel, while Richard
Renstrom added a technical explanation of aerodynamics, complete with speed-related formulas. Close on Renstrom’s heels were the
entertaining and slowerpaced adventures of the late Ilenry Manney HI.
A variety of racing updates completed this issue, with the battles between Agostini and Hailwood at the East German and Czechoslovakian Grands Prix displaying the expected intensity. The Ascot 50miler, Castle Rock IT, Lincoln 7-Mile National
and Hillclimb Championship from Muskegon, Michigan, put the icing on the competition cake.
In fact, it's clear that even as far back as this issue. Cycle World was living up to its title, delivering to its readers a global perspective of the world of motorcycling.
