THE PRO CIRCUIT TOUCH

HUSKYS FOUR-STROKES ARE the widest dirt Singles currently in production. But they don't have to remain that way. Pro-Circuit has a Husqvarna Four-Stroke Kit that transforms the big lungers into lighter, skinnier, more powerful denizens of the dirt. The kit includes a complete exhaust system consisting of a two-into-one headpipe and a short, silenced megaphone with the S-bend pipe attached; a new airbox; and two side numberplates that tuck in closer to the frame and reduce the bike's width considerably.

The kit requires a coi~p1e of hours installation time, mainly because the air boot and air-filter attaching hard ware have to be removed from the stock airbox and transplanted to the new one. And the side numberplates have to he positioned and drilled for their attaching bolts and plastic ties. And installing the exhaust system takes more than a few minutes, too, although the 8-pound reduction in weight that results (the new numberplates and airbox contribute less than haIfa pound to the weight loss) is a bonanza. Pro Circuit's si lenced megaphone exhaust system also is a lot quieter than other mega phone exhausts we've tried. The sys tem doesn't employ a spark arrester, but Pro-Circuit claims to be able to adapt a SuperTrapp or other spark ar rester to the end of the silencer should a buyer request one.

Maybe nore ii~nportant than the reduction in weight is the difference the Pro Circuit system makes in the area above the footpegs. The Pro-Cir cuit pipe runs behind the frame on the left side, just above the swingarm pivot, rather than outside the frame above the top shock mounts like the standard dual-exhaust system does.

Thus, the new side numberplates can be drawn in closer to the frame rails, reducing the width by 2.5 inches.

Thu~ standing on the 510's footpegs is no longer a hassle. Since the weight has been removed from the upper part of the bike, the TE be comes even easier to pitch through the woods. And the added horse power comes in real nice when the rider wants to loft the front wheel over a log or rock. The kit sells for $225. and we obviously think it is worth every penny. It's available from Pro Circuit, 4212 East La Palma, Anaheim, California 92807~ (714) 993-5400.
